Who benefits from this year’s event?
This year’s event proceeds will benefit the SPCA of Anne Arundel County. Over the years, proceeds from the light show have supported various non-profit projects such as the AAMC Capital Campaign and Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit.
How many lightbulbs are used in the show?
THOUSANDS!!! In addition to perimeter and architectural lighting, there are two lighted tunnels and approximately 70 animated and stationary displays, with more added each year. Nobody knows the exact number.
Whose idea was it?
Lights On The Bay was the idea of a former AAMC hospital president who wanted to bring a wonderful family event to the community, and also help support select local, non-profit charities each year.
How long does it take to set up?
The show takes approximately 30 days to set up. Storage trailers arrive at Sandy Point State Park in early October to begin the difficult tasks of installing and connecting miles of light strings and displays.
